Stubborn stools and constipation occur when poo stays in your bowel for longer than normal, during which time it loses moisture, becoming dryer, harder and more difficult to pass. This is what we call a stubborn stool.
Movicol® is a stool hydrator that contains an active ingredient called macrogol that works by binding with water and taking it to where it is needed in the bowel. Here it is absorbed by the stool.
The end result is that the poo becomes softer and easier to pass meaning that your bowel muscles can get back to moving the poo along and out of your bowels.
Essentially, Movicol® gets to work so you can get back to doing your business.
Taking Movicol® is as easy as following these three simple steps:
You can take Movicol® at any time of day, with or without food and most users experience relief within 24-48 hours.*
ALWAYS READ THE LABEL AND FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Take 1 sachet on the first day. If, on the second day there is no improvement, then increase to 2 sachets in separate doses and if no improvement on day 3 then increase to 3 sachets in separate doses. In the unlikely event this still doesn’t work then we recommend you contact your healthcare professional.
In terms of how long you should take if for, the treatment time with Movicol® may vary. If you need to take Movicol® for longer than two weeks please see your doctor.
Movicol® is available off the shelf – there is no need to wait for a doctor’s appointment whenever you recognise the signs of a stubborn stool.
Each sachet contains a single dose of Movicol®, which is made up of powder that dissolves easily in water to create a drink that comes in several tasty flavours.

If constipation persists or becomes a concern, seek medical advice by visiting your doctor or pharmacist. Keeping a record of your bowel movements two weeks prior to your appointment can help your doctor in understanding and diagnosing your condition.
